What is Transitional Kindergarten (TK)?

Adventure Christian School is pleased to offer Transitional Kindergarten classes.  This class was created to meet the needs of children who are either not ready for kindergarten, or do not meet the age requirement of 5 years of age prior to September 1st for enrollment in our school.

In 2010, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed Senate Bill 1381 which implemented age requirements for kindergarten school-aged children.  Prior to 2010, students who turned 5 prior to December 1st, were permitted to enroll in public kindergarten schools.  By signing SB 1381, Schwarzenegger structured a roll-back system that will be in full effect in the year 2014, requiring students to be 5 years of age by September 1st for public kindergarten enrollment.  SFGate.com stated that "the law is designed to make sure children are prepared for grade school when they begin.  The governor called the bill a "landmark accomplishment for early childhood development" in the state."

Our TK Program

The TK program at ACS runs five days a week and prepares children for Kindergarten by addressing their individual social, emotional and academic needs.  In order to qualify for our TK program your child must turn 5 years old by December 31st.  ACS offers a full-day TK class from 8:15am-3:00pm five days each week or a half-day program from 8:15am-12:00pm five days each week.  Class sizes max out at 24 students per class with a teacher and a teacher's aide.

TK Curriculum

Our program uses ABeka and Bob Jones curriculum and is more academically advanced than our preschool program, but provides the pace and security of a preschool environment.
